~Kim Fowlkes~![]() HALLETTSVILLE: Kim Fowlkes, 55, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on April 29, 2025. She was born on April 7, 1970, and grew up in Moravia, where she made many memories with her mother, Kay Fowlkes; her sister, Tammy Treybig; and her grandparents, Henry and Julia Olsovsky. Kim formed lifelong friendships while attending Hallettsville ISD and Schulenburg High School. She later went on to study at Southwest Texas. Kim met the love of her life, John III, at the Schulenburg Festival in 1990. They were married on July 18, 1992, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg by Monsignor Tim Kosler. Together, they built a beautiful life in Ezzell, where Kim made their house a true home. Their first son, Cody John, was born on September 11, 1993. Their second son, Clay Henry, followed on May 6, 1996. Their family was made complete with the birth of their daughter, Abby Kay, on February 25, 1998. Kim loved her children deeply and took great pride in being able to stay home and raise them. She enjoyed life’s simple joys—time spent at the river, Coleto Creek, and Lake Somerville with family and friends. She shared many laughs with her besties on trips to the Golden Nugget in Louisiana and made treasured memories on annual beach vacations with her Ezzell school crew. One of Kim’s greatest joys in recent years was becoming “Gran Gran.” She adored her three grandgirls with all her heart—and they loved her just as much. Their days were filled with stroller rides down the driveway, Polaris rides to check the “moo cows,” and playing with well-loved toys. Kim was always taking pictures, and her refrigerator was covered with snapshots of her babies. Whether it was a trip to the park, a weekend at the beach, or just Sunday supper, time with her grandchildren was her greatest treasure. With three grandkids now and three more on the way, they will all grow up knowing they have the best red-headed guardian angel watching over them. Kim will be remembered as a devoted wife of 33 years, a loving mother, a proud Gran Gran, and a loyal friend. Her kind heart, bright smile, and gentle spirit touched everyone she met. She loved making others happy and found true joy in spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, John Fowlkes III; her children, Cody Fowlkes (Kelsey) of Leesville, Clay Fowlkes (Emilie) of Hallettsville, and Abby Steffek (Tyler) of Hallettsville; and her grandchildren, Lydia Fowlkes, Blakely Fowlkes, and McKinley Steffek. She is also survived by her mother, Kay Fowlkes; her sister, Tammy Treybig (Bruce); and her nieces, Amber Treybig and Erin Treybig. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, John Fowlkes Jr., and her grandparents, Henry and Julia Olsovsky.
