SHINER: Daniel Peters, age 78, died on Tuesday, July 22, 2008. He was born on April 19, 1930 in Lavaca County, to Victor and Frances Siegel Peters. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, worked with Agricultural Stabilization Service, Department of Transportation, manager of American Legion Park, was a reserve Constable, attended the first Police Academy in Lavaca County by Victoria College, was Precinct # 3 Constable, Municipal Court Judge for the City of Shiner from 1978 until present, Precinct # 3 Justice of the Peace, Precinct # 3 Commissioner of Lavaca County and as Commissioner he was instrumental in efforts to obtain a grant to move the trestle bridge to the Spoetzl Brewery, to have the Senior Citizen Center in Shiner and building the new Lavaca County Jail, served on the Golden Crescent Regional Planning Commission. He was a member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church and an usher there, member of KJZT, KC’s, KJT, Business Men’s Club, Game and Fish League and Chamber of Commerce, ran his own meat market; loved his cows and was a lifetime farmer. Preceded in death by his parents and brother Benjamin Peters. Survivors: wife, Amalia “Molly” Pustka Peters of Shiner; daughter, Monica Peters of Port O’Connor; sons, Daniel “J. R.” Peters and wife Deborah, Daryl Peters all of Shiner; three grandsons; Jonathan, Christopher and Joseph Peters. Public visitation was from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Thursday (July 24th) at the funeral home and visitation was at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday (July24th) at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church with rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass was at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, (July 25th) at the church with Rev. Bob Knippenberg officiating. Burial at Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Father Sean Donahue Fund, Shiner Public Library or Shiner Volunteer Fire Department. |
