~Lee Love~
YOAKUM: Lee Love passed away on January 16, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined not by sorrow, but by connection, warmth, and an uncommon ability to make the world feel friendlier simply by being in it. Lee was the true definition of “Tejas”, a word meaning friendly, and anyone who met him understood that immediately. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation, a laugh, or a lifelong friendship in any setting. His presence was easy, genuine, and welcoming, and people naturally gravitated toward him. During his high school years, Lee played tennis and became well known on the court as “Love, Lee,” remembered especially for his unforgettable kick-serve that kept opponents guessing and entertained spectators. Some of Lee’s favorite memories were made fishing in Palacios, Texas with one of his closest friends, Drew Janca. Those days on the water produced countless trout and black drum, but more importantly, stories and laughter that would be retold for years. Through Drew’s father, Don Janca, also father figure to Lee, he discovered sailing, learning not just how to navigate a boat, but how to slow down and appreciate the rhythm of the wind and water. One of the places Lee loved most in the world was his family’s land in Cotopaxi, Colorado. Many summers there brought memories with amazing friends and family climbing granite rocks and sitting under the starlit Colorado sky. At his brother’s home in San Marcos, Lee proudly took on the role of “Uncle Lee,” a title he wore with pride. He could be found shooting bows and arrows with his nephew Jude or serving as a moving jungle gym for his niece Marie, always playful, always present, always all-in. Evenings often found Lee playing video games with friends from around the world. He would eventually meet up with several of them on a recent trip to Florida where they enjoyed sharing each other’s cultures and traditions in person. Lee’s life reminds us that kindness is powerful, that joy multiplies when shared, and that the simplest moments of good food, great company, and family laughter are often the most meaningful. His spirit lives on in every friendship formed, every story told, and every room made brighter by warmth and welcome. Lee is survived by his mother, Carol Love; brother, James Love of San Marcos; sister-in-law, Morgan Love; nephew, Jude Love; and niece, Marie Love. He is preceded in death by dad, Robert Love. Funeral will be held January 31st at 10 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Yoakum, TX. Rosary will be before the funeral at 9:15 am at St. Jospeh’s Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Arrangements by Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home 361-293-5656. |
