YOAKUM: Irene Zwerschke Petru Shimek, 91, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born March 18, 1934, in Shiner, TX to Herbert and Clementine Schneider Zwerschke. She worked at Tex Tan Leather Company and Torel Leather Company. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed dancing, crocheting, yardwork and volunteering with the Pink Ladies. Survivors: daughters, Katherine Jendrzey, Linda Hagan (Dennis); grandchildren, Christopher Jendrzey (Elizabeth), Heath Hagan, Chance Hagan (Alyssa); great grandchildren, Aubrie Jendrzey, Colby Jendrzey, Cheyenne Hagan, Presley Hagan, Kyle Hagan, Bethany Hagan. Preceded in death by: parents; husbands, Eugene Petru, Johnnie Shimek; grandson, Colby Aaron Jendrzey; son-in-law, David Jendrzey; sisters and brothers-in-law, Inez Marburger (Julius) and La Joyce Pustka (Matt). Visitation 9 a.m., Rosary at 9:30 a.m., and a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., Monday, March 9, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Matthew Huehlefeld officiating. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers: Christopher Jendrzey, Colby Jendrzey, Chance Hagan, Heath Hagan, Glenn Pustka, Kevin Pustka.
